Programmable Logic Devices: PLA, PAL & FPGA Explained | Digital Electronics | Pluto Academy
Welcome to Lecture 31 of the Digital Electronics series by Pluto Academy and Tishant Agrawal!
In this session, we explore three key types of Programmable Logic Devices (PLDs) that revolutionize circuit design:
PLA (Programmable Logic Array): Features both programmable AND and OR arrays, providing high flexibility for implementing complex logic functions. Commonly used in custom logic applications and prototyping.
PAL (Programmable Array Logic): Contains programmable AND array and fixed OR array. Simpler and faster than PLA, widely used for address decoding, data multiplexing, and standard logic implementation.
FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array): Provides an array of configurable logic blocks with programmable interconnects, supporting both combinational and sequential logic, and enabling real-time reprogrammability for advanced digital systems and embedded applications.
Learn the structure, advantages, limitations, and applications of each device. Understand designer trade-offs when choosing between PLA, PAL, and FPGA for classic and modern digital system solutions.
