North Korean troops cross the border for guard post inspections

North and South Korean soldiers on Wednesday, December 12, crossed the demilitarized zone (DMZ ) between the two countries to inspect the dismantling of guard posts, Seoul reported.

The peaceful visits and inspections – the first since the Korean War – were part of the agreementthat each country would remove 10 guard posts along the DMZ and preserve one on each side, including the one previously visited by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

This footage, shared by the office of the president of South Korea, shows the soldiers shaking hands at the border before making a crossing.

South Korea’s Ministry of Defense released a video on November 20 that showed their northern neighbor destroying its guard posts.

North Korea reportedly has around 160 guard posts inside the DMZ, while South Korea has about 60 guard posts.
