What if Santa were a superspreader

Santa is supposed to be the bringer of gifts, cheer, and good will. Of course Santa is not real. The question is what if Santa were real?

Not in terms of gifts, cheer and goodwill. No, we mean disease and danger.

What if Santa were a super spreader of disease?

This is of course theoretical. However a theoretical scenario tells us a lot about what might happen in real life.

To understand what might happen we can look at different scenarios. That is where and when Santa is infected. Is he sick from the time he leaves the North Pole or is he infected while travelling the world. These 2 start times drastically alter the spread and impact of any disease.

This also brings to bear another somewhat more serious question. What kind of disease is Santa infected with.

There are two types of disease that we can broadly describe. Those that are completely novel. Unknown diseases that are a mystery that creates new problems. The other are known diseases that may or may not be just as much if not more of a problem.

In the case of Santa being infected in the North Pole there are many issues. The biggest is that any pathogen that can survive in the North Pole is going to be very hardy. That can lead to resistance to many treatments, make pathogens more infectious, and possibly more deadly.

What if it was something we know already?

There are several diseases we can sue to demonstrate and teleport this. Tuberculosis, HIV, and smallpox. Different diseases, different infection vectors, and different degrees of deadly.

While each disease needs different means of spreading they also have some overlap. Treatment difficulties, fast spread, and prospectively deadly.
