Sound of the Italic Languages (Latin + 33 Romance Languages/Dialects and 4 Creoles)
(Corrections: for the note on the Galician language, it should be said that Galician and Portuguese form a dialect continuum and are considered by some to be a single language; Galician should not be considered a dialect of Portuguese. Additionally, the languages of Emilian and Romagnol are nowadays considered by linguists to be separate but closely languages, not one language.)
This is a video featuring samples of over 30 Italic languages/dialects and some of their creoles. The Italic languages (which make up a branch of the Indo-European language family) include Latin and the languages that descend from it, the Romance languages, as well as a few extinct languages that used to be spoken in present-day Italy in ancient times. For this video, I'll only be showcasing Latin and select Romance languages/dialects.
Because all of the living languages in this family descended from one language relatively recently, the languages in this family are particularly close to each other compared to other branches of the Indo-European family, so expect to see a lot of cognates between these languages. I hope you enjoy this video, and let me know if you see any mistakes. If you’d like to see more of these types of videos, let me know. :) Song and translation links are in the comments. Enjoy!
