How to Maintain Your Side of Your Home's Natural Gas Line

In most communities the homeowner is responsible for the maintenance of the gas line from the meter into the house. This means it's up to you to paint it and keep it in good maintenance.

By regularly painting the portion of the gas meter that belongs is your responsibility you can prevent rust related maintenance problems and keep the meter functioning and looking like new for years to come. A good exterior paint designed for covering metal works best, so you may want to use something like a RustOleum or Krylon brand of paint that will hold up to the elements and still look good.

But how do you spray paint something so close to your house without making a mess and getting the paint all over your siding or house covering? You build a cardboard template to protect your house and you use electric tape to mask off the areas you don't want paint to hit.
