Sigma 18-35 F1.8 - 5 YEARS LATER • Filmmaking Review and Should You Still Buy One?

Hey Everyone, I decided to do a ‘5 year review’ of my trusty Sigma 18-35 F1.8. I can’t believe 5 years has passed since this lens was released. Though Canon’s new F2 zoom lenses come close in terms of aperture speed, this now famous lens from Sigma as well as it’s bigger brother, the 50-100 are the fastest zoom lenses on the market. I’d highly recommend this lens if you are either a crop sensor (APS-C) shooter or a GH5 user. Also, this lens is great on Blackmagic cameras and will be fantastic on the new pocket camera. Let me know what you think of this review. There are a few things I didn’t go into such as distortion or chromatic aberration / fringing. In that area, it’s fairly decent. There is noticeable fringing but it’s quite acceptable. It’s a great all round lens and will replace a few widish primes.
PRO’S
Fastest zoom lens on the market.
Sharp results.
Great DOF for it’s wideness.
Very smooth focus and zoom rings for controlled focus adjustments.
Decent price compared to other competitors.
CON’S
Slightly heavy for an all round travel / vlog lens.
Can miss focus quite a bit in photography mode.
Not very flexible, limited zoom. Only 2x.
No stabilisation, not really an issue though.
Not available in MFT mount.
Prone to stiffening in the focus if it takes a knock.
