Wicked Wildlife - Conservation through Education

Australia is fortunate to be home to some of the most diverse and unique wildlife on earth, yet in the last 200 years we have lost 55 species to extinction, with a further 241 on the endangered or critically endangered list. While it’s easy as one person to say “what difference can I make” we strongly believe every cause, every idea, every positive change throughout history has started with a single person, and the more “single people” we have out there pushing for the conservation of our natural world, the greater our chances of saving not only the world around us, but perhaps our own species as well

With the premier of David Attenborough's documentary "Our Planet" on Netflix the reality of the situation that we are in the midst of the planets sixth mass extinction has never been more real. As Sir David Attenborough so rightfully points out, it's almost impossible to grasp, that the destruction caused by man, is now every bit as profound as the asteroid that destroyed the Dinosaurs.
The terrifying scale of these events however can only be realised when you consider that
96% of the mass of mammals alive today are either human beings, or the livestock bred by human beings. leaving all the iconic mammalian species we imagine, from elephants, to lions, kangaroos to whales, as only the other 4%
70% of Birdlife on the planet today, is domestic poultry such as chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese
Attenborough so eloquently points out, as only Sir David Attenborough can that we once depended on nature for survival, but today we now determine wether or not nature will survive
It's a daunting prospect, and faced with this realisation its easy to think "but I am just one person, what can I do?" and it's true, we cannot all be David Attenborough, or Steve Irwin. We cannot all have the capacity to educate the masses, or influence the political decisions that are needed to change the world over night. But we can show that we care, we can share our passion for wildlife and the natural world with those around us, spread the conservation message to our friends, who can share it with their own circles. Because change starts with one person, and when one person can make a change, together we can all make a difference!
