About, Hangin 'Judge is a #Blues band. Four friends kickin' it for fun.
The Red Devils and The Fabulous Thunderbirds are their main sources of inspiration. Not much else to say about it .... Just some steady blues with Nick on the drums, Pieter on the bass, Wouter on the guitar and Berry does the vocals and harmonica. The Netherlands has once again added a classy blues band. This time from Breda. The band Hangin' Judge consists of friends Nick (drums), Pieter (bass), Wouter (guitar) and Berry (vocals, harmonica).
Their debut album was recorded live in MFM Rijsbergen in 2020 by producer Pieter Smits.
They cite the Red Devils and the Fabulous Thunderbirds as their biggest influences and you can hear that clearly on this album. Hangin' Judge has the rawness of the Devils and the loose swing of the Thunderbirds.
The album opens with the broodingly pumping raw shuffle Mr. Highway Man with Berry's exasperated groaning harmonica and his powerful, bluesy vocals, a loosely pumping rhythm section and biting guitar work.
With Taildragger the band goes on a funky tour, smoothly grooving with a Killing Floor-like drive, roaring harmonica playing and a piercing guitar.
Don't Bite The Hand That Feeds You swings loosely but very solidly, with Berry letting his harmonica roar exuberantly and Wouter providing burning biting guitar work.
Devil Woman has a swampy sound a la Born On The Bayou by Creedence Clearwater Revival. A subcutaneous itchy song with fine vicious raspy guitar playing.
The lazily swinging shuffle No Fighting is followed by an intimate reverberating cover of the Otis Rush classic Double Trouble in which there is a sumptuously warm Fleetwood Mac atmosphere and in which Wouter plays a fabulously smashing guitar solo.
Baby I Love You is also a cover of the song known by Aretha Franklin. In the hands of Hangin' Judge, this has become a wonderfully lazy pumping shuffle.
