Oberlahnstein: medieval fortifications on the Rhine | Germany #9
A visit to Oberlahnstein. This medieval town, which is now part of Lahnstein, was heavily fortified during the middle ages due to its strategic position on the Rhine. There are three castles in the town's vicinity: Schloss Martinsburg on the edge of town, Burg Lahneck on the hill overlooking the town, and Schloss Stolzenfels on the opposite bank of the Rhine. Some stretches of the medieval city wall including towers have been preserved. Other historic buildings include the church of St Martin, the old town hall, and the old toll house on the Lahn.
