Glenelg Country School versus Francis Scott Key High School, 1994 - 1995 Season, High School Boy's Varsity Basketball.
Top players: Kofi Kankam, 5-9, Sr., G; Chris Lehmann, 6-0, Sr., F; Chris Lindenau, 6-0, Sr., F; Risto Worthington, 5-10, Sr., G/F; Scott Zimmerly, 6-2, Sr., G; Henry Johnson, 5-9, Jr., G; Justin Dean, 5-10, Jr., F; Bernie Dennison, 6-6, Jr., F; Derek Pindergraph, 6-1, Soph., F.
Historical Impact: Without a doubt, the 1994–1995 Glenelg Country School Dragons were the greatest high school basketball team ever to emerge from Howard County, Maryland. Coming off their first winning season with a 9–3 record under Coach Dean Gregg, the team entered the new season with unmatched chemistry, experience, and raw talent. Senior guard Kofi Kankam led the charge, averaging an astounding 22 points per game, while a core of four-year veterans—Chris Lehmann, Chris Lindenau, Risto Worthington, and Scott Zimmerly—provided consistency, leadership, and grit. The lineup had everything: explosive scoring, disciplined defense, and, for the first time in school history, a true inside presence in 6'6" junior Bernie Dennison. Rising stars like Derek Pindergraph and Henry Johnson added depth and future promise, and with a program that now included a full junior varsity and the largest schedule in school history, Glenelg's basketball program had clearly arrived. Their epic battles, especially against Laurel Baptist, cemented their legacy—not just as champions of a season, but as legends of the county.
Outlook: The Dragons had their first winning season last year and look forward to even greater success this season. Kankam averaged 22 points as a point guard. Lehmann, Lindenau, Worthington and Zimmerly are four-year players. Dennison gives Glenelg height it never has had, and Pindergraph has talent, averaging over 32 points per game throughout the Season and going on to achieve more than 2,000 points in his short three years at GCS. A 28-game schedule is Glenelg’s largest. Also, for only the second season, the school has a full junior varsity.
1993-1994 Record: 9-3. Coach: Dean Gregg.
1994-1995 Record: 28-2. Coach: Dean Gregg.
