In 2024, the OPC Foundation published the OPC UA WebAPI standard. By leveraging the web-based architecture, OPC UA WebAPI extends it’s communication capabilities from industrial devices to enterprise and cloud.
In February 2025, Chinese OPC developers launched the OpenAtom competition to demonstrate how UA WebAPI work with existing OPC UA servers. And for the coming years, the use cases such as Digital Twin and AI will be showcased.
