Using Lydian over major chords

The Lydian mode is a sweet sound and works well on most major chords. The exception is when the chord has a natural 4th in there, then you would likely just use the good ol' regular major scale.

Why does this work? Simple - it's because when the underlying chord doesn't have a 4th in there, you have the FREEDOM to choose either Ionian or Lydian. The canvas is open for you to paint with either, so to speak.

I encourage you to try noodling around on a major or major 7 chord, using this mode. Share with us! Would love to hear you.
