FM (No Static At All)" (sometimes referred to as "FM") is a song by American jazz-rock band Steely Dan. It is the title theme to the 1978 film FM. The soundtrack to the film won the 1979 Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, with engineers Roger Nichols and Al Schmitt taking the honors.
Three versions of the song by Steely Dan exist. The Guitar version and its sax reprise feature on the soundtrack and 12" single. The former also appears on the A Decade of Steely Dan compilation. The Sax version appears on Showbiz Kids, amongst others, and appears to be a remix combining the main song with its reprise, as it is not an alternate take. It is possible this remix was commissioned especially for Citizen Steely Dan so that it would not feature two different versions of a song one after the other.
The song reached #22 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In the UK, it reached #49.
FM is a 1978 film directed by John A. Alonzo, and starring Michael Brandon, Eileen Brennan, Alex Karras and Cleavon Little. The screenplay was written by Ezra Sacks.
This film was produced by Universal Pictures, and originally released to movie theaters in 1978
