His dog had slept in his bedroom every night for seven years.
Never once refused to enter a room.

One night he came home late.
His dog walked with him to the bedroom door as usual.
Then stopped.

He would not go in.
He sat in the hallway and whined.
Low and steady.

He called him. The dog would not move.

He went in without him.
The moment he stepped inside — he smelled gas.

He got out immediately.

The technician said the gas leak was inside the wall directly behind his bed.
The concentration was high enough that if he had turned on any electrical switch —
the phone charger beside his bed —
anything —
the room would have ignited.

He would not have survived.

He asked how long the gas had been leaking.

The technician calculated.

Based on the concentration —
at least six to eight hours.

His dog had been sitting outside that door
for six hours before he came home.
