Struggling to Support Students The Teacher's Dilemma

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was enacted in 1975 to guarantee that children with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education. However, even after nearly five decades, many states and school districts still struggle to fully meet these requirements.

Ongoing legal battles over inadequate services for students with disabilities reveal the persistent gaps in education quality and accessibility.

If states have failed to consistently uphold these protections under federal oversight, how can they be expected to do so without it? Removing federal accountability risks leaving students with disabilities even more vulnerable to educational neglect.
