Heat Exchanger में अक्सर यह सवाल पूछा जाता है कि Shell Side और Tube Side में कौन सा Fluid Flow कराया जाता है।
Generally design principle यह होता है कि Corrosive Fluid को Tube Side में और Cleaner Fluid को Shell Side में रखा जाता है।
इसके पीछे मुख्य कारण यह है कि अगर Tube Corrosion से Damage हो जाए तो Tube को Replace करना आसान और कम Costly होता है, जबकि Shell को Replace करना काफी Expensive और Difficult होता है।
इसलिए Design और Maintenance को ध्यान में रखते हुए Corrosive Fluids को Tube Side और Cleaner Fluids को Shell Side में Prefer किया जाता है।
हालांकि यह कोई Hard and Fast Rule नहीं है, लेकिन Industrial Heat Exchanger Design में यह Practice काफी Common है।
