Review of Liectroux B3000 robot vacuum cleaner

We're a busy household who value a clean home but are not so keen on cleaning hence robot vacuum cleaners are just what we need and we now have 5 of different brands and designs with a plant to eventually have one for each room!

First impressions of our latest, this Liectroux B3000, convey a good build quality and durable product, well-made, smartly finished and a welcome asset in our home.

It can be used either manually whereby it is set to work by pressing the 'clean' button on either the top of the vacuum unit or on the remote control unit (CR2025 battery fitted), or the cleaner can be set via a timer to vacuum your home at a preset time up to 24 hours ahead, eg while you're out at work or doing something more interesting. In this mode it is charged in its docking station, runs daily at the appointed time for up to 90 minutes then returns to its charging base for recharging as the battery runs low. In my tests it returned to its charging base (or very close to it) when used in the same room but not when let loose around the 6 rooms on our ground floor where it would stop at the point where the battery expired.

When run manually, a voice-prompt confirms the option selected and the B3000 will begin vacuuming, working its way around the room or moving from room to room if doors are left open. Infra-red sensors ensure it doesn't bump hard into furniture: it will sometimes give a gentle nudge but the sprung front-side bumper ensures there is no risk of any damage. It's excellent at gliding beneath furniture so is perfect for vacuuming beneath beds and other furniture - areas difficult to reach by a standard vac. Thanks to its rugged and independently sprung traction wheels, it can adjust to different floor surfaces and move between carpet, lino, tiles, low-pile rugs, laminate and similar while also negotiating room dividers. On areas with greater soiling, the 'spot cleaning' mode can be activated whereby the B3000 will rotate over a particular spot while 'edge cleaning' sees the vacuum running along the edge of a room along skirting boards or furniture, eg kitchen cupboards. If there is an area or room not to be cleaned then a battery-operated (D type - not supplied) 'virtual blocker' unit is supplied and is very effective in working across a doorway to keep the B3000 confined to one room and is particularly useful in open plan homes where rooms have been knocked together and don't have doors. Similarly, sensors underneath the B3000 detect a drop and ensure it doesn't take a tumble down stairs.

It can be used on most floor surfaces and is particularly good on laminate, tiles, lino and similar, along with dense short-pile carpet. Where it fails a little is on longer pile carpet ie more than 10-15mm, as shown in the video. Here it will still pick up crumbs, grit and other common debris but is less effective and usually needs a second pass. We have a house-rabbit who sheds a lot of fur and the B3000 easily and most impressively vacuums every last strand of fluff from lino, tiles etc but on longer pile carpets and rugs the fluff tends to get trodden in so is harder to vacuum and surface fluff tends to remain there. However, this applies to probably any robot vacuum cleaner and some lower-powered manual vacuum cleaners. And, on the subject of pets, this is the ideal vacuum cleaner for pet households with few or no carpets and is excellent at vacuuming hair and fur without worrying the animals themselves. It is quiet in use (65dB) and can be used in one room while we sleep undisturbed in the neighbouring room - which can't be said for conventional vacuum cleaners which are notoriously noisy.

The dust container is easily accessed via the top of the B3000 which is a much better design than found on many other robot-vacuums where it is one the underside. Just tap the top lid which raises and lift out the dust container (300ml capacity) and tip the contents into a bin - it couldn't be easier.

Another bonus point I was pleased to see is the availability of spares plus the accessible battery which can be replaced so no need to replace the entire vacuum cleaner when the battery eventually fails to hold it charge after a few years' of typical use. Also, some spares were included with the B3000 including a spare HEPA filter and two side brushes.

The Liectroux B3000 is a highly recommended, robust vacuum cleaner which is simple to use, performs well and can be left to its work with minimal user-input so is ideal for the household which wants to have clean floors but dislikes the effort normally involved in cleaning them to keep them this way!
