You've seen micro-apartments, expensive apartments, and many more. But have you seen an older than time apartment? Probably, whatever though, come check out mine. Welcome to the folksy cozy tour of my home. I've lived in Japan for eight years and never once lived in a city. That is, until now. I've moved to the downtown of Kyoto, not far at all from the beautiful Kamogawa river. Some people are put off from living in older Japanese homes, but not me. They really are a fantastic opportunity. Provided the building has been maintained well, and in this case it has, then you reap all the benefits on cost without any of the drawbacks you'd expect. You also have a far higher likelihood of getting a few of the choice character elements like I have. Shoji sliding wooden doors are wonderful for the soft light that they offer and tatami mats with their unique aromatic woody smell are a delightfully authentic element found in these older spaces.
