What is Bipolar Disorder with Rapid Cycling?

This video describes the Bipolar Disorder course specifier “with Rapid Cycling.” Rapid cycling requires four or more episodes of mania or depression in 12 months. Rapid cycling is associated with females more than without rapid cycling, a younger age of onset, and higher morbidity.
There are additional versions of rapid cycling, which are not in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM). These additional versions are controversial. One is ultra rapid cycling, which is based on weeks or days instead of months. Usually ultra rapid cycling is thought of as more than one episode in a month. Ultradian rapid cycling (ultra ultra rapid cycling) is more than one episode in a day.
Bipolar I Disorder is characterized by at least one depressive episode and one manic episode. Both Bipolar I Disorder and Bipolar II Disorder require the depressive episode, however, instead of the manic episode, Bipolar II Disorder requires a hypomanic episode. Hypomania is a less severe form of mania. Both disorders are serious and require mental health treatment. The counseling treatments for both disorders are usually similar.
