First Flight from Damascus Since al-Assad Regime’s Fall

The first flight since al-Assad Regime’s fall took off from Damascus airport to Aleppo on Wednesday, carrying 43 passengers, including journalists.

Assad fled Syria after a rebel offensive in late November, and his forces abandoned the airport on December 8.
Flights had been suspended until this departure. This week, airport staff painted planes with the three-star independence flag, now adopted by the new rulers, replacing the Assad-era flag in the terminal.
