We have been having an issue with calcium in our shower and in our sinks. That stuff is hard to get off once its stuck on there, and I don’t really like the idea that I am having a calcium shower. Lol
Also, Tyler still didn’t like the taste from the water going through the first small filter outside and Britta filer so we were buying him water bottles. (Sorry earth)
We looked up some of the popular water filtration systems and what they cost.
Some were upwards of $400!
Tyler and I knew there had to be a way to make our own. Then we came across one of the videos by Keep Your Day Dream. They had showed one of their friends travel trailer and a bunch of the modifications that he had done. He showed his own filtration system and that he just bought all the necessary items at the hardware store.
We went to Lowes but we didn’t follow any type of list we just kind of figured it out.
To take all the guess work out of it for you, here is a list of items and what they cost.
This is comparable in the construction to the systems sold by Clear Source.
Use the filters that are necessary in your area.
MAKE YOUR OWN RV WATER FILTER SYSTEM
Items Needed:
(3) AO Smith whole house sediment filter $19.96 each
(2) 3/4” hose adapters $5.58 each
(1) 3/4” hose couplings $6.68
(1) 5 micron carbon wrap sediment filter $11.98
(1) 20 micron sediment filter $8.97
(1) 35 micron sediment filter $9.96
(2) 3/4” brass nipples $8.88 each
TOTAL = $126.39
TOOLS NEEDED: Crescent wrench, channel locks, pipe dope/sealant, and Teflon tape.
Our biggest surprise in making this switch was MORE WATER PRESSURE!!!
