This video was produced by the National Karelian Song and Dance Ensemble "Kantele" within the framework of the “Kantele Goes Global! Ground Zero” Project, funded by the Cross-border Cooperation Programme “Karelia”. This Programme is financed by the European Union, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Finland.
Our project seeks to promote cross-border cooperation between Finnish, Russian and Karelian kantele players. We also seek to promote internationalization and popularization of kantele music worldwide by means of intercultural synthesis. We play Finnish, Russian and Karelian folk music, as well as contemporary compositions. We also try to introduce kantele into foreign cultures (North America and Far East) by using kantele as accompaniment for traditional cultural performances (i.e. dance) in recipient countries. The project's Lead Manager is Olga Vlasova from the Karelian National Ensemble "Kantele".
