Amazing Wild Tuskers
Seeing many tuskers in single herd is a rarity in wilds of Sri Lanka. From the total population of elephants, less than 5% bare tusks. While the loss of habitat is one of the main reasons for this, the human – elephant conflict has resulted in mass eliminations of the aggressive male population from the wild. Over the years, this has caused a change within the gene pool, subsequently reducing the majestic tusker population in the wild.
