Work on the Seekoei Estuary causeway has both an ecological and human element. Larger culverts (a structure, typically a pipe or box, that allows water to flow beneath a road) will allow a better mixing of salty water on the estuary's seaside with fresher inland water. The estuary will be raised by 8cm, the maximum allowed to avoid flooding the surrounding developments.
