600 year old Oak Tree Orcutt Ranch Park

Orcutt Ranch was one of many Orange Groves in the San Fernando Valley a 100 years ago. The property was donated to the city and Parks and Rec's keep the grounds in order. This is public park for anyone to enjoy with trails that are lined with native Indigenous trees and plants. The park is also used for special occasions, weddings, receptions and an assortment events with a park like atmosphere.
The 600 year old tree is located in the center of what used to be a orange grove or orchard a 100 years ago. But as the population swelled, and property values increased, the orchards were fazed out and replaced with housing tracks and businesses. These orange trees are the last of the remaining trees that once covered the valley floor. Its remarkable that this Oak Tree along with a few others in the park, still stand after all these years. This one with the help of a steel brace.
This tree was a seedling when Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. Chumash Indians along with an assortment of other Native Indian tribes roamed the area for 100's of years before Christopher set sail.
