Born on January 12, 1939, in Brewton, Alabama, Golden grew up singing gospel music and joined the Oak Ridge Boys in 1965, helping guide their transition from gospel to mainstream country success. With his rich voice and distinctive appearance, he became one of the group’s most recognizable figures during their string of hits in the 1970s and 1980s, including classics like “Elvira,” “American Made,” and “Y’all Come Back Saloon.”

Golden briefly pursued a solo career after parting ways with the group in the late 1980s, releasing albums that reflected his deep Southern roots and love of storytelling before rejoining the Oak Ridge Boys in 1995. Beyond his music, he’s also known as a painter and photographer, with his artistic work often inspired by nature and his travels. William Lee Golden continues to perform and record both with the Oak Ridge Boys and with his family group, William Lee Golden and The Goldens, celebrating a lifetime dedicated to country, gospel, and harmony-rich American music. #oakridgeboys #classiccountry #familyband
