Did you know that playing the piano has scientifically proven, stress-reducing powers? I'm not kidding! When you play the piano ALL the areas of your brain are in action.
So this is a health lesson as much as a piano lesson.
If you're having a bad day, it can really hard to want to sit down an do a structured practice. You might not feel like working on scales (when did scales make anyone feel better?).
So here is an improv trick that I actually got from Jordan based on the black keys (with two whites ones added in later).
The goal here is to enter a sort of 'flow' state, where you are just playing without thinking. You can make it as difficult or as simple as you like, as long as you're just enjoying the piano to unwind and relax.
(The reason the black notes work so well here, is that they are naturally the pentatonic scale of Gb major! Fun fact!)
