Mae West: Did She BUY An Apartment Building Just So Her Black Lover Could Be With Her?

Mae West was an American stage actress and movie actress. She was a woman of many talents. Also on her resume - playwright, screenwriter, and singer. She wore many hats during her career that spanned over 7 decades. One role that cannot be removed from her story is sex symbol. During a time when it wasn’t seen as suitable for women to even THINK of sex, she was known for her sexual independence. She spoke in suggestive double entendres and sexual innuendos that would have made any other woman be labled as an obscene outcast. But SURPRISINGLY, for Mae West, it drew people to her.
One of those many people was black, middleweight boxing champ, William Landon Jones - known in the boxing ring as Gorilla Jones. He met Mae West in 1928 and maintained a relationship with her until the day she died on November 22, 1980. He died just a little over a year after Mae West on January 4, 1982 - it is said that he died so soon after she did because he lost his will to live after Mae’s death.
Was that because the two had been lovers for decades after she had gone to extraordinary lengths so that they could be romantic partners?
