Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937) was a Polish composer and pianist, considered the most famous Polish composer of the early 20th century. During his career, Szymanowski absorbed a diverse set of musical influences, from contemporary trends in music such as late Romanticism, Impressionism and the work of Scriabin to folk music from Spain, the Middle East, and the Górale people of his native country.

Many of these influences can be heard in the colorful "Nocturne and Tarantella" of 1915, which is one of Szymanowski's most famous works and has carved for itself a place in violin standard repertoire; it has been been recorded by the likes of Yehudi Menuhin, Leonid Kogan, Kyung-wha Chung, and Nathan Milstein, as well as Aaron Rosand who plays on this recording.

The score is in the public domain worldwide. It can be found on Szymanowski's IMSLP page (https://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Szymanowski,_Karol) under "Nocturne and Tarantella, Op. 28."
