Tokyo Olympics: Opening ceremony director sacked for Holocaust joke

No rest for the Tokyo Olympics as problem after problem strikes. Director of the opening ceremony Kentaro Kobayashi has been sacked on the eve of the event after comments surfaced online over a joke he made about the Holocaust in the 1990s. Meanwhile, new COVID-19 cases in Tokyo have also soared to almost 2,000 -- the highest level since January -- but Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said the opening ceremony will go ahead. With spectators barred from the event, organisers said about 950 people -- including officials and journalists -- are expected to catch it "live" at the stadium.
