Mouraria, Lisbon's Medieval Moorish Quarter! 😀Walking Tour With Historical Facts, Portugal [4K]

Virtual walking tour in Mouraria, with detailed historical information and context. Mouraria, or Moorish quarter, is one of the most traditional and historic neighbourhoods in Lisbon (Lisboa), Portugal. It takes its name from the fact that after the reconquest of Lisbon in 1147, the Muslims who remained were confined to this part of the city.

When the Crusaders conquered Lisbon in 1147, king Afonso Henriques allowed those Muslims who wished to continue living in the city to be confined to a neighborhood outside the city walls, creating the Mouraria. Many centuries later, Mouraria is still Lisbon’s most multiethnic neighborhood.

About one fifth of the population is of Asian origin, mainly from China, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, which explains the large number of ethnic restaurants in the area. It has some of the most picturesque and authentic streets and alleys in the city,
