After being closed to new applicants for about a year, the Malaysian government has decided to reopen the program this October.
New rules and requirements are applicable to new applicants as well as existing MM2H visa pass holders.
Since the mm2h program launched in 2002, 10s of thousands of people secured this social visit pass to have unlimited access to one of the most sought after countries in Asia.
The income requirement has quadrupled. Net worth and minimum deposit requirements has increased as well.
Here are the new requirements:
There are now two age categories: 35 to 49, and 50 and above
You're required to spend at least 90 days in the country.
To bring your spouse or underaged children with you to Malaysia, you're required to deposit RM50,000 per dependent.
All applicants must have liquidable assets of RM1,500,000 in their possession to qualify for the upgraded version.
All applicants must also deposit RM1,000,000 into a Malaysian fixed deposit account. 50% of this amount can later be withdrawn and used for certain expenses like property. The other 50% must stay in the fixed deposit account.
The pass fee is RM500 per year.
Supposedly, the Malay government is looking to attract wealthier individuals to boost a declining economy.
Will existing Malaysia My Second Home pass holders be able to meet the new requirements?
Will the new rules scare away potential applicants?
