The Back Four - Do I Love You? feat. Rwanda Shaw [Official Lyric Video]
Belfast, Northern Ireland 'supergroup' The Back Four were put together by former Northern Ireland football international Ian Stewart (who's club career took him to QPR & Newcastle United, amongst others) and his friend Philip McCarroll, a Belfast musician/solo artist & frontman of erstwhile Belfast rockers Pay*ola. The two worked together for many years under the Sounds of Northern Ireland promotional banner.
The band have released a number of tunes on the London based label Cherry Red Records, and have a new single due to drop on Friday 25th March - this one a very special collaboration.
Do I Love You? is a cover of The Ronettes 1964 single, and of course a tribute to the sadly departed Ronnie Spector. The band are joined on this version by hugely talented solo artist Rwanda Shaw, from Lisburn, Northern Ireland - who duets with Back Four lead vocalist Philip on the track (recorded at Northern Ireland's premier recording studio Manor Park)
The single has an authentic soul feel with a little rock'n'roll edge, and it also gives a significant tip of the hat to Chrissie Hynde and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, who duetted on the song back in 1978 aided by Paul Cook on drums.
Although the track never made it beyond demo stage this version was definitely used as a template by The Back Four, but they have added their own twists and turns to the tune, and made an arrangement very much their own!
The full line-up on the track is:
Rwanda Shaw - Lead & Backing vocals
Philip McCarroll - Lead & Backing Vocals & Percussion
Matthew Wilson - Bass Guitar
Eamon Lenehan - Drums
Jonny McGuinness - Keyboards
John Wilson - Guitar
Saxophone – John Mitchell
