Pruritis Ani, it is a fashionable name given to the itching around the anus. Pruritis Ani means itching and I mean anal canal. So around the anal canal if somebody gets itching that's called Pruritis and I there are many causes for causing itching in any part of the body more. So in the perianal region. The commonest causes we will discuss about it is worms in the stools, threadworms, pinworms, small worms which will deposit eggs around the anus and cause a stitching. Most of them it will be what we call is nocturnal itching the nighttime. You get more itching. So it is more probably because of the worms . So intestinal worms, that has to be treated accordingly . The other common cause for itching is application of some ointment or chemicals. For some reason for certain diseases. If you go on applying for long periods the skin gets eczematized and causes lot of itching. Third cause of itching is in allergies anywhere in the body. Similarly one can have itching even in the perianal region or anal region. Other causes fungal infections that is also very common. Because if the hygiene is not maintained properly and if there is a wet and warm areas fungus will grow and that will cause itching around the anal canal. So once a doctor examines, you'll be able to make out what could be the cause and he has to treat it accordingly. There are certain itching without any reason some psychological neurological other issues. They are all better treated by the dermatologist who will be able to make out what is the cause of it and treat accordingly.
