Rohan Ramblings 59: in which Gryfflet rescues the vegetables of Entwade from a dreadful fate
Gryfflet emerges from a crate of potatoes to help Thane Edric of Entwade prepare for evacuating his folk to Aldburg, but gets briefly distracted by the unusual local architecture. Investigation accomplished, he proceeds to gather enough Quests to be going on with as he sets out to clear the local area of malefactors while answering some Lore Questions, which continue as he then gathers up townsfolk in preparation for their evacuation and consults with the guards about further dangers. Gryfflet then ventures into the Mead Hall where he is unsurprisingly frustrated by the architecture but does find more work not to mention some interesting maps. This includes checking that the evacuation went OK—with particular attention to the privies where he finds more than he expected—and boarding up some of the windows, then for some variety he heads out of town to check the surrounding roads, on which more malefactors have inevitably spawned. Dealing with them, and retrieving some stolen supplies, allows for more Lore discussion which compensates Gryfflet somewhat for the pain of having to undertake Mounted Combat. His last two errands take him just outside the town where some starving Orcs are stealing fish, or possibly "befouling them" (whatever that means), and eating dead horses which obviously doesn't go down well in Rohan. He slaughters the former and buries the latter while reviewing his weaponry with the aid of the chatroom, then retrieves the remaining fish and returns to the Mead Hall. It turns out that the man he found in the privy earlier is keen to help defend the town, but the Thane insists that he join the now-departed refugees. There is just time to find this would-be hero some weaponry of his own, and pop back to Edoras to check in with Gandalf, before the session ends.
"Somebody was super ambitious here!"
"Oh dear, mounted combat…but that's OK!"
"Your husband sent me all the way to you…from two feet away!"
"Does one overlisten? And if one doesn't overlisten, why not?"
"Sorry, just walked right over you, that was rude!"
"Can't wait to see the other privy…not a sentence I normally utter!"
"They've taken the radishes too, and the artichokes!"
Lore discussed this week included the type of wings on Gondorian helmets, JRRT's use of hyphenation, and linguistic conventions in LOTRO. Less seriously the Professor was asked his favourite Dwarves in "The Hobbit" and in "Snow White".
