Gavião-gato atacando vespeiro - Gray-headed kite attacking wasp nest (Leptodon cayanensis)

Filmagem feita no dia 01/09/2023 um Gavião-gato ou Gavião-de-cabeça-cinza (Leptodon cayanensis) atacando um vespeiro. O ataque começou as 12:18 e terminou por volta de 12:51. É fato conhecido que um dos principais itens alimentares desta espécie são larvas e pupas de vespas-sociais que a ave consome ao atacar os seus ninhos. Esse comportamento é raramente observado e conta com alguns poucos relatos na literatura científica e registros fotográficos mas eu nunca encontrei filmagens e por isso estou postando essa compilação com todos os videos que fiz do acontecimento, incluindo o momento em que a ave se aproxima do ninho, rasga as suas paredes e se se empanturra com o conteúdo dentro. No começo eu fiquei receoso de me aproximar muito e espantar o gavião mas com o tempo fui percebendo que ele não estava incomodado com a minha presença, por isso pude mudar de posição várias vezes enquanto filmava e fotografava. Pouco tempo depois do último clipe ele voou, deixando o ninho destruído para trás. Nos intervalos entre os vídeos eu também tirei muitas fotos.

It is a known fact that one of the main food items of this species are the larvae and pupae of social wasps that the bird consumes when it attacks their nests. This behavior is rarely observed and has just a few reports in the scientific literature and photographic records, but I never found footage of it and that's why I'm posting this compilation of all the videos that I made of the event, including the moment where the bird comes near the nest, tear its walls and gourge itself on its content inside. At first I was afraid of getting too close and scaring the kite away but over time I realized that it wasn't bothered by my presence, so I was able to change position several times while filming and photographing. Shortly after the last clip the bird flew off, leaving the destroyed nest behind. At the intervals between the videos I was able to take many photos too.
