The perfect little 4x4 gets a cheap and dirty lift and homemade winch bumper
Sarah's perfect little 4x4 gets a lot better with a homemade winch bumper while Rose's XJ gets a cheap and dirty lift and a few little fixes. Finally we get a chance to test these things out a bit while winching out a stubborn firewood tree.
We found the 1.75" coil spring spacers at Amazon: https://amzn.to/2Y0wcr8

They were both fairly simple projects but lifting with blocks proved a little easier than with the extended shackles (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9lPi_BdDrA&t=2s). Both methods are pretty cheap and dirty and we should upgrade to a proper lift at some point.
We made a cut sheet for a local shop to get all the heavy pieces of steel cut for the bumpers. This was still pretty cheap and was definitely easier than slashing it all up with torch and grinder. The main pieces of steel used were 2"x6" rectangular tubing and 2"x2" receiver stock, both in 3/16". We did a lot of heavy winching recently (but after this video was recorded) and the bumpers held up great.
Agree that the jeep cherokee xj is the perfect little 4x4? Made your own cheap and dirty lift or homemade winch bumper? You're definitely one of us; go ahead and subscribe, ring the bell, and tell us about your cheap like borscht 4x4.
