Based in the UK, Redbeard Effects are the brainchild of Mikey Demus (guitarist Skindred) and pedal designer Adrian Thorpe of ThorpyFX. From the beginning, the goal of these pedals were to inspire players with unique circuits and unabashed tones that draw upon decades of experience playing stages and studios across the globe.
Redbeard came out of the gate in 2019 with two bone crushing devices that occupy different sides of the tonal spectrum, The Red Mist MKIV with its tight high-gain overdrive and 3-band EQ and the Honey Badger Octave Fuzz which pairs an aggressive fuzz with an analog octave that generates both one and two octaves below.
The latest addition to this wild bunch is the Angry Rhubarb Paradynamic Overdrive MKII. Again, drawing on the experience of using pedals live and in the studio, Redbeard realizes the sonic differences of placing dirt before and after EQ. So, they decided to give the Angry Rhubarb both! The Pre-Drive and Post-Drive are completely independent circuits, with the latter having a bit more gain. A parametric EQ or Shape section lets you fine tune the frequency to boost or cut from 80Hz to 4KHz. When the Shape is hit with gain by the Pre-Drive, extra harmonics, resonance and cocked wah effects jump out front while the Post-Drive lets you finalize the overall crunchiness. The master volume has the headroom to handle both gain stages and the EQ for precise level matching with your rig or extra output when you want to go over the top. Obviously, this dynamic overdrive and EQ stacks well with clean and dirty amps or any kind of effects whether they are before or after. Like ThorpyFX, Redbeard Effects are top notch builds, designed and built entirely in the UK using high quality, components like WIMA and Panasonic caps where needed and gold-plated PCBs.
