A powerful guardian dog with a sleek coat, a bite force that’s almost the same as that of a Great White Shark, and a sheer domineering stature, the Boerboel is truly a superpowered dog.

In today’s video, we are going to be taking a look at this mighty dog and some of the best things about the breed.

The Boerboel is a large guardian dog, also known as the South African Mastiff. It is a very remarkable breed that is regarded as one of the most powerful dog breeds in the world. They are known to exert an average of 450 pounds of pressure per square inch from one bite.

Let us make it a little more relatable. Think about how powerful the bite of a Lion or a Great White Shark would be. The biting power from either of these animals exerts about 600 pounds of pressure per square inch.

Scary right? Well, this dog breed is only short of those numbers by 150 pounds. Such a powerful bite force for a dog.

Getting their name from the word “Boer”, which means farmer, you can already tell what these dogs were bred for. They were bred to defend their home and land.

Just like other puppies, Boerboels are very laid back and easy to teach and influence as little pups. However, do not make the mistake of not investing enough time into training and socialization for a Boerboel puppy. As a result of their intense work rate, these dogs are very intelligent and can effortlessly become uncontrollable adolescent hoodlums.

But treat them right and you’ll have one of the most intelligent, loyal, and endearing pets you could ever ask for. Boerboels are historically guardian dogs that do their job with the utmost diligence, which explains why this breed loves their family.

They are extraordinary when it comes to loyalty and will always take their primary job of protecting their home and family very seriously.

As powerful as these dogs are, it is both shocking and amazing just how cool, calm, and confident they are when executing their protective duties. They are very composed and have a very stable temperament, which is not something that is common with most powerful dogs.

While all this is true, it does not take away the fact that these dogs do not like to be left alone. Their love for their family means they would always want to be in the company of these people.

As we mentioned earlier, these dogs are intelligent, so training should begin as early as 8 weeks. Gotta catch em’ young. It is important to expose these dogs to new people, places, and experiences as frequently as possible during their formative weeks.

With the right kind of socialization, Boerboels can be very friendly with other pets within and without the household. If there are other pets in your household, all Boerboels need is the right training, so they know that these other creatures are not their enemies.

Large, powerful, energetic, you can already tell that these dogs will consume a lot of food. Apart from the quantity of food, it is also important to give these dogs quality in feeding.

At the early ages, it is extremely important that they constantly get the abundant protein they need.

Since it is a giant breed, you should expect it to grow at a very rapid rate, this, in turn, causes its skeletons to be less dense and weaker. So, be sure to keep an eye on its calcium intake.

While these dogs can be heavy eaters, be careful not to overfeed them as obesity is a dangerous thing for giant breeds like this.
