Your kid isn't addicted to screens. You are.

Sherry Turkle has spent 30 years at MIT studying what phones do to relationships. She has a name for what you do at the dinner table — she calls it phubbing.

Her finding: kids whose parents check their phones during meals show lower empathy, worse conversation skills, and higher attachment anxiety by age 12.

It's not the screens. It's not the time. It's not even the apps. It's the message you send every time you pick it up mid-sentence — this thing matters more than you do.

The fix is one rule, and it's not for them. It's for you.

When your kid is talking, your phone is in the other room. Not face down. Not on silent. In the other room.

The kids watching you pick it up 96 times a day are the ones who'll pick theirs up 200 times a day in ten years.

You're not raising a kid with a phone problem. You're raising the parent they'll be.
