Desert Locust Crisis 2020: The campaign to contain the locust threat in Yemen

Desert Locusts, considered the most destructive migratory crop pest, have infested large swaths of land Yemen. The alarming spread of the pest makes it necessary to ramp up Yemen’s capacities to the serious threat to livelihoods and food security. FAO is supporting control operations by providing technical guidance as well as adequate supplies of approved pesticide. FAO trained plant protection specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation on how to survey and control the spread of Desert Locust, and 400 field teams are being established. FAO continues to actively engage with partners and donors to respond to the threat and protect vulnerable communities.
