Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three Vande Bharat trains via video conferencing on Saturday (31 August, 2024), highlighting the expansion as a reflection of India's progress toward a "Viksit Bharat" with modern infrastructure and speed. The new trains connect Meerut to Lucknow, Madurai to Bengaluru, and Chennai to Nagercoil.

Madurai is now directly connected to Bengaluru, providing a significant boost for both commuters and pilgrims. The Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week, except on Tuesdays, stopping at key stations like Dindigul, Tiruchchirappalli, and Bengaluru Cantonment. The train departs Madurai at 5:15 am and returns at 9:45 pm.
