Pre-born Rights: Are YOU Next? Property vs Personhood
HB25-1259
"Don't ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee."
What is the difference between a human and a person? Are unborn humans people too?
“Don't give up! I believe in you all.
A person's a person, no matter how small!
And you very small persons will not have to die
If you make yourselves heard! So come on, now, and TRY!” --Dr. Seuss
There is a filmed ultrasound of feticide in process. It’s called “The Silent Scream,” because the unborn human was trying to make himself, or herself heard in the violated sanctity of his or her mother’s womb. Unfortunately, the reality of suffering did nothing to assuage its infliction.
While I absolutely believe in a person’s Right to bodily autonomy, I note that in pregnancy there are two bodies—two persons, each with the Right to life. Notably, both the mind & body of the mother are reengineered to protect and preserve the life of the unborn person, even to the detriment of her own.
The problem with linking women’s health care to feticide is that you cannot create a Right for one to violate the Rights of another. “Central to the political philosophy of liberalism,” “The harm principle is often explained as “your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins”…people should be free to act as they wish as long as their actions do not cause harm to others.” This new “right” to feticide is a precedent to the approval of punching in the nose, and predicated on the denial of another to “Life.” If murder can be a “right,” anything can be. Likewise, central to our medical philosophy is “first, do no harm,” and there is nothing more harmful than death.
To borrow from Abraham Lincoln,
"I read once in a law book,
'A slave is a human being who is legally not a person but a thing.'
And if the safeguards to liberty are broken down, as is now attempted,
when they have made things of all the (unborn humans),
how long, think you,
before they will begin to make things of (you)?"
“A thing” is property, not a person. When you consider an unborn human to be property, to be “Not a person but a thing” and commit an act wholly in violation of “the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God,” it is only a matter of time before “they make “a thing” (property) out of you,” not only with your permission, but your blessing and sanction. I am suspect of any who decry the “thing-ing” of one set of persons while championing it for another. In actuality, the “thing-ing” of one’s self is automatic.
