5 Tips for Writing About Mental Illness in Young Adult Fiction
Here are my five best tips for how to write about mental illness and mental health in YA fiction. This is a delicate topic and there are some ways you can approach is that can be harmful to readers—especially young readers.
In this video, I discuss the problems with the depiction of depression in Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, offer my theory on the way YA authors should tackle heavy topics, and give you my five tips for writing about mental illness and mental health sensitively.
