Russia is benefiting from the recent Middle East conflict mainly because it is a major oil exporter, and the war has disrupted global oil supply.

First, the conflict—especially around Iran and the Strait of Hormuz—has reduced the availability of oil in the global market. A large portion of the world’s oil normally passes through this region, so when supply is disrupted, prices rise sharply. In this case, oil prices have increased significantly, even crossing $100 per barrel.

Since Russia sells oil internationally, higher prices mean it earns more money for the same amount of oil. Reports suggest Russia is making up to about $150 million extra per day due to these price increases.

Second, many countries that usually buy oil from the Middle East are now facing shortages. Because of this, they are turning to alternative suppliers like Russia. For example, countries like India have increased imports of Russian oil significantly during the conflict.

Third, Russian oil has become more attractive because it is available and sometimes cheaper compared to disrupted Middle Eastern supply. In some cases, demand has become so strong that Russian oil is even selling at higher prices than before, showing increased global reliance on it.

However, it is important to note that Russia is not benefiting perfectly. Some reports show that logistical issues, sanctions, and infrastructure problems are limiting how much extra profit it can fully capture.

The war reduces global oil supply, increases prices, and pushes more countries to buy from Russia—allowing Russia to earn higher profits from its oil exports.
