As we can see this method improves a little more the bulk of foamed channels. Regularly, 1 cm to 1/2" of an inch thick foams are used for this purpose.
I have used a thicker foam 9/16" of an inch medium density to do the channels. I am using the same thickness for the lateral bolsters, but I would recommend a thinner foam for the sides...1/4" of an inch would be ok to make the sewing easier.
