Along with giving a fair comparison and understanding of this difference between solid wood and engineered wood, through this video I’ll also answer the question from where the confusion actually starts, “How to choose to floor for your home?”

Before understanding the difference between Solid Wood and Engineered Wood lets understand these flooring types individually in brief:

Solid wood flooring; as the name suggests, this variant of wooden flooring is made of solid wood throughout its thickness. It’s available in a standard thickness of 18mm. It is usually made of a hardwood species, such as French Oak, Brazillian Oak or American Walnut, and etc.
Engineered wood flooring; is manufactured in 14 to 15mm thickness and is made of several layers of wood. The top layer or wear layer of engineered flooring is the species you are buying which determines the grains and the color of the product. The layers beneath the top layer are of the non-precious wood that helps in stabilizing the structure of the product.
Talking of India as a country, where people sweat a lot while summers and it rains for a good 3 months of the year! People usually have this set impression in their mind that wooden flooring can’t be the right choice for their house. I don’t blame them because just back in the days, there used to be customers complaining about their wooden flooring getting spoilt due to the high amount of moisture resulting in the flooring becoming damp and getting spoilt over time. Cut to today where we at Lamiwood Floors have a whole new wide range of water-resistant and water-proof laminated & engineered wood floorings, that you can clean using a wet mop and increase the hygiene and health safety levels of your house to protect your family. But the flooring being water-resistant and waterproof is enough to conclude that this confusion of Solid Wood Vs. Engineered Wood? I don’t think so.
