It's very handy if you know how to use a repeater tower for long distance UHF radio communication.
A repeater tower in the Victorian High Country can be connected to via channels 1 through 8 on a 40 channel UHF radio hand set.
Using these repeater tower channels for long distance communications, could be very helpful in an emergency situation if you are out of mobile phone reception and incase you don't have a Satellite phone.
It's still not guaranteed that you will pick up a connection with a repeater tower, but knowing the selected channels to try for a connection is very much a safety thing to know.
