Junkanoo Fest 242 Celebrating the Influence & Culture of the Bahamas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Aug. 8, 2022 - PRLog -- The authentic soul of the Bahamas was on display Emancipation weekend, July 29- 30 2022, in Bunche Park in Miami Gardens, Florida. Conch Pearl Entertainment 242 hosted its 2022 Junkanoo Fest 242. The two-day park event ended each night with an interactive Junkanoo display led by Crusaders for Christ Junkanoo group out of the Bahamas, Atlanta Junkanoo and a United Junkanoo Troop out of South Florida. Sponsored by the ministry of Tourism, investment and Aviation, Bahamasair and Kalik, the event celebrated Bahamian influence and culture in South Florida with a Conch Pearl award ceremony presented by the first lady of the Bahamas, Mrs. Ann Marie Davis. The Conch Pearl award recognized Bahamian expats, for creating programs and services that support the growth and preservation of Bahamian culture.
The honorees of the prestigious community award are as follows:

Mr Harlington Hanna
Mr Earl Miller

Joining the First Lady in South Florida was the wife of the Bahamas Minister of State for the Environment, Daphne McIntosh and Ambassador-at-Large for Cultural Affairs, Jamaal Rolle. The event was supported by Bahamas Consulate General Miami with Consul General of the Bahamas, Miami the Honorable Curt G. Hollingsworth and Vice Consul, Chala Cartwright in attendance on both days. Bahamian Councilwoman Shannan "Lady" Ighodaro of Miami Gardens was one of the major forces behind this year's Bahamian celebration.
With the support of the First Lady of the Bahamas, Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, sponsors and the Bahamian community Junkanoo Fest 242, 2023, is promised to be bigger and better with events in South Florida July 21-23 and Atlanta, Ga July 28-31 as we celebrate the Bahamas' 50th Independence.
