BSLIVE Virtual 3D Avatar With Mixamo Character Rigger for Blender

#Mixamo #ReadyPlayerMe #Avatar

In this episode, I am showing you the step by step procedure to make a 3D avatar virtual puppet ready to be animated using some tools from Mixamo.

I am using Blender 2.93 for this project.

1. Prepare your 3D character model, I am using Wolf3D ReadyPlayerMe avatar, but feel free to use your own character:
https://blog.readyplayer.me/animaze-by-facerig-3d-avatars-vtuber-software/

2. Send your character in FBX format to Mixamo online to have armature set for your character, then download it.

3. Use Mixamo Rig addon in Blender to add the standard full biped character controls for your character:
https://substance3d.adobe.com/plugins/mixamo-in-blender/

4. Start posing and animating your character. Make film or use it in game environment.

So there you go, the process is really becoming so much simpler and automated at least for basic stylized character -- I do prefer stylized looking character, because of many reasons.

With this procedure, we have dependency with Adobe Mixamo however, so keep that in mind. But open source free use character bone skinning and rig control is always welcomed.

For the avatar to work in practice you might want to perhaps use face capture, in addition to what you can do with manual control rig to animate your character. Full body motion capture that is realtime is also something that might want to try if you have access to it.

Maybe tomorrows, we could easily replace the clothings on the fly, add props, and have interactive background set environment.

Enjoy!
